Peer-reviewed Technical Publications
I have written, and collaborated on writing and editing, numerous research papers encompassing a wide range of subjects in engineering mechanics and materials science. These papers have appeared in refereed journals as well as in the proceedings of national and international technical conferences. Reprint copies of my publications are available upon request.

News Releases and Program Information Documents
Communicating the content and intent of a complex research project to a broad, often non-technical, audience is a challenging task for many researchers. In order to be effective, these communications must strike a balance between technical detail and providing accurate, informative descriptions. In recent years, I have written and edited wide-release communications to inform general audiences about large, multi-disciplinary programs. Two examples are a news release and a Sandia National Laboratories Fact Sheet that explained the benefits of introducing advanced research and new technologies into critical areas of weapons demilitarization (news release) and homeland security (Fact Sheet).

Just for Fun
Outside of my professional engineering duties, I have long been fascinated by innovative sports car designs and amateur road racing. While engaged in this hobby, I have been privileged to own a number of Lotus road and race cars that I have used for transportation as well as to participate in track competitions at several U.S. venues. Because of my long-term involvement with the marque, I was asked by the editor of Victory Lane magazine, Palo Alto, CA, to write an article describing some of my experiences owning and driving a 1962 example of the legendary Lotus 7. This article, entitled “Heaven is a Seven”, appeared with several others as the magazine marked the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Lotus road car production. The article was accepted without revision by the magazine editor for the June 1998 issue.
